After the COVID-19 pandemic, reading became an integral part of my life. I discovered my love for non-fiction books, which broaden my perspective and help me grow intellectually. For some reason, fiction never appealed to me the same way, but non-fiction? That’s my sweet spot.
At the start of 2024, I set an ambitious goal for myself: to read 24 books by the end of the year. I was 9 months pregnant at the time, and perhaps the pregnancy hormones made me a bit too optimistic about the number! While I didn’t reach 24, I managed to read 12 books, and I’m incredibly proud of that progress. This achievement didn’t happen evenly across the year. There were months when I didn’t make any progress at all, and others when I powered through multiple books. What I learned is that consistency is key. Whenever I felt like giving up, I reminded myself of the goal I’d set and kept going. Tracking my progress on Goodreads also kept me motivated. Now, as I reflect on 2024, I’m happy with what I accomplished. More importantly, I’m grateful for all the intellectual growth these books have given me.
For 2025, I’m setting a more realistic goal of 15 books, and if time permits, I’d like to start writing about some of them on my blog. I share this to encourage everyone to pick up the habit of reading, even if it’s just six books a year. Reading is essential for personal growth, learning, and life itself. Let’s all make time for it.
Happy reading, everyone! Here’s to another year of growth and discovery through books!
